Carmelo Anthony finally teamed up with his good friend LeBron James this offseason on the Los Angeles Lakers after a two-year stint in Portland.

Melo recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show and discussed the whole process of joining LA and revealed a hilarious reason for the decision to play for the Lakers:

“I almost got forced to do it. … I think LeBron forced me to do it,” Anthony said. “He waited till the right time. He waited till we're at the end of our careers and he said, ‘The time is now. If you don't do it now, we ain't gonna never do it.”

You can't put it past LeBron. The Lakers forward came into the league with Anthony and has a very close relationship with him. With the team looking to make another run at a title after a disappointing 2020-21, it seemed like the perfect time for Melo to join forces with The King.

The former Syracuse standout also discussed how it felt like the perfect time to play alongside one another:

“Early on, I don't think it would've worked out between us because he was on his path, I was on my path. We had different lanes,” Anthony said. “I just think everything happens for a reason and timing is everything.”

The Lakers roster is definitely looking scary following a busy offseason. Aside from Melo, Los Angeles also added the likes of Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Nunn, Wayne Ellington, and Trevor Ariza, among others. While there hasn't been lots of criticism that LA is too old to compete for a title, LeBron and the Lakers will be poised to prove all the doubters wrong.
