It is no secret that UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington is one of the most hated figures in modern mixed martial arts. With Covington often playing the role of the “heel” similarly to that of a professional wrestling character, his latest string of nonsense surrounds a potential bout against Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

With YouTube sensation Jake Paul defeating former NBA guard Nate Robinson in a gimmick of a boxing bout over the weekend, it now appears as though calling out notable figures from other sports is all the rage in combat sports.

While this would obviously never happen for a slew of reasons, Covington's character and persona often align directly with the views and following of President Donald Trump, who has more than occasionally labeled LeBron James as the bad guy. Almost as ridiculous as Covington's “call out,” James is far from a terrible person as the Lakers superstar has led more than a few noteworthy charitable efforts over the years.

As for Covington's UFC resume, his most well-known contest to date actually came in a losing effort as he came up short against current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman back in December 2019. Usman ultimately knocked Covington out in the fifth and final round while breaking his opponent's jaw en route to a title. As it stands today, the 32-year-old Covington owns an impressive 16-2 overall record as a professional mixed martial artist.

Meanwhile, James is on a mission to snag back-to-back titles for the Lakers in the 2020-21 season.
