Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James gave a shout-out to veteran shooting guard JR Smith last night on IG.

This is relevant because the Lakers reportedly have interest in Smith, who has been a free agent since last season:

In Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors, Smith made a mistake for the ages.

The game went into overtime after Cavs point guard George Hill missed the second free throw. Smith got the rebound, but dribbled the ball out to the perimeter, clearly not knowing that the game was tied.

The Cavs got swept by the Warriors. LeBron suffered a bone contusion in his right hand after punching a white board following the Game 1 loss.

Smith played in 11 games with the Cavs last season before the franchise exiled him. Cleveland waived JR after being unable to find a trade partner for him.

Smith averaged 6.7 points per game with the Cavs last season. He will always be linked to the Lakers since he has a rapport and history with LeBron.

The Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference. Another shooter like Smith around LeBron and Anthony Davis would make the Lakers even more lethal on offense.

The veteran has career NBA averages of 12.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
