Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is indeed a true leader both on and off the court.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel can attest to that fact, claiming that James has been a tower of strength for everyone throughout these tough times.

The basketball world has been shaken to the core this week with the shocking passing of basketball global icon Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, along with seven companions during a tragic helicopter crash last Sunday.

The entire Lakers organization took it extremely hard, considering how Bryant spent his entire 20-year NBA career donning the Purple and Gold.

LeBron James is the closest one to Kobe among the current Lakers ensemble. Like most of the players of this generation, he grew up idolizing the Black Mamba and hoped one day to reach the level of greatness he has achieved.

As much as fans wanted to pour gasoline on a perceived rivalry between LeBron and Kobe a few years back, that beef never even came to existence.

The pair of enigmatic players remained close friends and had mutual respect and admiration from one another. The King even went as far as immortalizing Bryant on his body with a touching Black Mamba tattoo. He also promised to continue his legacy of excellence.

The Lakers, meanwhile, play their first game since the tragedy against the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center on Friday.

Their supposed third encounter with rivals Los Angeles Clippers was postponed earlier this week, in the wake of Bryant's passing.

The Lakers are slowly picking up the pieces after the accident. Several members of the team have already dedicated this season to Bryant's honor.
