The comparisons made between Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James of the and Tom Brady are nothing new. Both athletes ruled over their respective sport for two decades and won multiple championships in the process.

With Brady officially announcing his retirement, Lakers star was asked on his reaction to the news and what the legendary quarterback meant to him as a fellow athlete at the top of their respective games.

“I personally was just like so in shock when I saw it,” said LeBron on Brady's retirement. “I was one of the ones that didn't say anything when the first initial announcement came out. I didn't retweet anything. I didn't say anything. Cause I wanted to make sure I heard it from him.”

Even at 44 years old, Tom Brady was still an elite QB who generated some serious MVP buzz at different points of the season. That's not unlike LeBron James, who at Year 19 has often still looks like a top 5 player in the NBA when healthy. The longevity of Brady has always been something that the Lakers star had used as motivation as he too gets up there in age.

“It's a guy who's been kind of my motivation factor over the last few years,” LeBron continued after the Lakers win over the New York Knicks. “Seeing what he's able to do at his age. Always being a leader of a team. Even at his age, people still gravitate towards him. His energy, how he prepares. Things of that nature. Small piece of me was definitely left when Brady decided to retire, that's for sure.”

Tom Brady's retirement is a harsh reminder for both Lakers fans and NBA fans in general that LeBron James' retirement isn't too far off. He may still have several years left in his career, but the end is within site for one of the greatest players to ever play. Appreciate him while you can, folks.
