Scoring more than 40 points in an NBA game is quite a feat itself, more so if you are at age where most players begin dealing with Father Time. Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James once again put his name alongside the franchise's best stars, becoming only the fourth player above 35 years old to score more than 40 points.

The King joined the likes of legendary players Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who achieved the scoring feat four times, Elgin Baylor (thrice) and the late great Kobe Bryant who did it twice.

The last time a Laker player above 35 eclipsed the 40+ point mark was way back on April 13, 2016, when Bryant poured in 60 markers in his NBA swan song.

LeBron James, meanwhile, recorded 40 points, eight boards, and six dimes in 36 minutes against the New Orleans Pelicans at Staples Center on Tuesday night. He shot 17-for-27 from the field and drained five of his 11 attempts from rainbow country.

James served up plenty of highlights during the Lakers' 118-109 win, including a ridiculous poster dunk over former teammate Josh Hart.

Now on his second season with The Purple and Gold, James appears to be hitting his stride as the postseason nears. He has already broken several individual milestones in the first half of the season and looks well on his way to breaking more at the season winds down.

With LeBron looking more lethal than ever in his 17th NBA season, the Lakers have coasted to the best record in the Western Conference at 44-12. The easy win over the Pelicans also stretched their winning streak to six consecutive games.
