There's a new hero in town for the Los Angeles Lakers and his name is Austin Reaves. The 23-year-old rookie just made a name for himself in a big way after hitting a game-winning triple for LA as they took down the Dallas Mavericks on overtime, 107-104.

Reaves found himself with some space for one final shot in the extra period and the 6-foot-5 shooting guard made sure to make his shot count (h/t ClutchPoints on Twitter):

Reaves has been given some extra run of late following the Lakers' current injury/COVID woes. The former Oklahoma standout is definitely taking advantage of the opportunity that he's being given and Tuesday night was without a doubt his best performance in a Lakers uniform.

The rookie finished with 15 points on 5-of-6 from the field. Incidentally, all of his shot attempts were from deep, and his fifth of the night booked the win for the Lakers. He also added seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 32 minutes of action.

Reaves, who went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, certainly fits the part of an underdog that found success at an unexpected time. These are the types of narratives fans love to cling to and there's just this feeling that Austin Reaves is on the brink of becoming the next viral sensation. This is also exactly the type of morale boost the Lakers squad could use right about now.
