The Los Angeles Lakers announced on Thursday afternoon that star forward LeBron James is progressing in the recovery from his groin injury and has been cleared by the medical staff to increase on-court functional basketball movements. he will be re-evaluated with an update on January 16th.

That means James will miss at least the Lakers next three games against the Utah Jazz, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Chicago Bulls. James has already missed the last eight games for the Lakers since suffering the Christmas Day injury against the Golden State Warriors. While he's inching closer to a return, it's certainly taking a lot longer than the team initially let on.

James is averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.0 three-pointers made per game on 51.8 percent shooting from the field and 35.6 percent from beyond the arc.
