LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were celebrating their third win of the season on Wednesday after a 114-113 nail-biter against the Dallas Mavericks. Before the night was over, they were also reveling an epic performance from Derrick Rose.

Rose carried the Minnesota Timberwolves on his back by pouring in a career-high 50 points to help his team take down the Utah Jazz, 128-125. It was an incredible feat that James would not let pass without acknowledging the extraordinary effort from one of his former teammates.

Perseverance brought Rose to this moment which the NBA family acknowledged and applauded on social media as soon as they heard of his career night. The University of Memphis alum torched the Jazz with shots that were ridiculously familiar to those who watched his 2010-11 MVP year. He dialed back the clock and then some, finishing with the greatest performance of his career.

Rose and the Lakers star were teammates for half a season when the former Chicago Bull joined the Cleveland Cavaliers prior to the start of the 2017-18 season. The four-time MVP took Rose under his wing and accepted him regardless of their heated rivalry during the early part of the decade.

After the Cavs struggled in January, however, the team revamped its roster sending Rose and Jae Crowder to the Jazz in exchange for Rodney Hood. Utah released the 6-foot-3 point guard immediately after the trade and the Timberwolves snatched him up in March. He re-signed with them in the summer on a one-year deal.

There’s no doubt that James would have loved to have Rose on his Lakers team that’s been struggling to find some consistency since the season started. L.A. is 3-5 while the Timberwolves are now at 4-4 after eight games.
