The New Orleans Saints agreed to a five-year, $100 million contract extension with star wide receiver Michael Thomas on Wednesday. In light of this news, Lakers superstar LeBron James decided to send Thomas a congratulatory message on Twitter:

Thomas is deserving of his new extension, as he is coming off an excellent season (career-high 125 receptions for 1,405 yards with nine touchdowns). Furthermore, the former Ohio State standout has racked up 321 catches for 3,787 yards and 23 touchdowns in his first three years of NFL service, so the Saints are likely pleased with his progression.

For now, Thomas will be the highest-paid non-quarterback player in the NFL. His deal is worth $100 million and includes $61 million in new guaranteed money.

James is known as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, but he is also quite fond of football. In fact, The King played receiver during his high school days at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, where he earned All-State recognition. He started on the freshman team, and it quickly became evident he had an impressive set of skills. As a result, he was asked to join the varsity squad:

“LeBron James started making some unbelievable catches and doing spectacular things with the ball as a freshman,” said then-head coach and athletic director Jim Meyer.

Though he was gifted on the gridiron, James ultimately chose to pursue his basketball career. Still, the Lakers star always shows respect to NFL players.
