When news broke that Carmelo Anthony had been speaking to teams with hopes of mounting a comeback, rumors quickly circulated that his good friend LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will take him in. Though things didn't pan out as Melo inked a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, James is nevertheless happy with his friend's decision.

James admitted that the ideal scenario would've been Anthony donning the Purple and Gold jerseys. Be as it may, he believes that Melo was destined to become a Blazer and join forces with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.

“Everything happens for a reason,” the Lakers star said, per Christian Rivas of SB Nation. “And everything works its way out how it’s supposed to. Obviously I would have loved for him to be a Laker at that point in time, but I’m not sitting here today like ‘damn, he’s supposed to be a Laker, he should be doing that for us.’ No. Because what he’s doing for them, it was already written. It was already written. If it was written for him to be a Laker, he would have been a Laker.

James also gave credit to Anthony for not rushing the process. To recall, the Houston Rockets parted ways with Anthony in November 2018. He signed with the Blazers in November 2019.

“But I think through the grace of God and through the grace of him being patient and him finding the right opportunity for him to succeed and be who he is, it landed him in Portland, and there’s no envy for that. There’s only praise and excitement. I’m just grateful that he’s back here, back in the position where I knew he belonged. It’s pretty cool. It’s pretty cool,” James furthered.

Now, LeBron James will face Carmelo Anthony in the first round of the playoffs, as the Lakers will play the Blazers starting Tuesday. This is just their second time meeting in the postseason. With that said, expect a great match-up between two good friends and extreme competitors.
