On Monday, Instagram announced it's going to crack down on fake likes, followers and comments.  Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, who has 44.8 million followers on Instagram, says a lot of people are about to suffer the consequences of Instagram's new system.

For whatever reason, there's a bunch of people on Twitter and Instagram who feel the need to buy followers and likes. It has to be an egotistical thing at the end of the day. Twitter recently did a big purge which saw a bunch of high-profile people lose 1,000 of followers.

LeBron James doesn't need to worry about this Instagram purge. He is by far the most popular athlete in the world. Along with his big Instagram following, The King has 41.7 million followers on Twitter as well. Whenever James posts something, it instantly gets engagement.

In his first season with the Lakers, LeBron James is having another good year. The four-time MVP is averaging 28.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 6.9 assists while shooting 52.0 percent from the field, 39.6 percent from beyond the arc and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line.

James and the Lakers take on the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night. It will be James' first and only game back in Cleveland this season. The Lakers enter that game with a 9-7 record.
