Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is one of the most dominant and influential athletes in sports, so it's no wonder why he took home the 2018 AP Male Athlete of the Year.
LeBron James reacted to the achievement, and he was quick to bring up the kids that attend the I Promise School in Akron, Ohio — a school that was created in large part due to James' efforts in his hometown.
Thank you “AP” for the award. Obviously this isn’t for me, it’s for all my @IPROMISESchool kids, kids all over the world and adults as well that allow me to talk for them, lead them, dream with them and inspire them every single day! THANK YOU 🙏🏾#JamesGang👑 https://t.co/xwfwZrNwGn

It's the third time that James won the award, and his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers was a huge reason for why he is taking home the honor.
James put a fairly weak Cavs team on his back en route to the team's fourth straight appearance in the NBA Finals. Of course, the Golden State Warriors dispatched James and Cleveland easily, but their run to the Finals was evidence of the King's superhuman abilities.
The Cavs have the worst record in the league this year so it's clear how much they are missing his presence in the lineup. Instead, James is leading the Lakers towards their first playoff appearance since 2013. He's dealing with a groin injury that should keep him out for several games, but what he's done in a Purple and Gold uniform shouldn't be undersold.
The Lakers are 20-14 and only 2.5 games back of first place in the Western Conference. Los Angeles may struggle without James, but that's to be expected when you lose the best male athlete of 2018 to injury.
