Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo won the NBA MVP award last season—his second consecutive trophy—but former NBA center Kendrick Perkins, now an ESPN analyst, believes that it should've been Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James' achievement (via “First Take”).

Perkins insists again and again that James was “robbed” of the award last season—and he might have a point.

Both Antetokounmpo and James put up ridiculous numbers last season in the strangest NBA season we've ever seen due to the coronavirus-spurred lockdown and the NBA's bubble in Orlando, Florida.

The Bucks forward averaged 29.5 points with 13.6 rebounds—both career-highs—to go along with 5.6 assists per game last year. He shot 55 percent from the field and averaged his lowest minutes per game (30.4) since his rookie season.

James put up yet another MVP-worth group of statistics in another NBA title campaign for the Lakers. LeBron averaged 25.3 points per game with 7.8 rebounds and a league-high, and career-high, 10.2 assists in the first NBA championship in Los Angeles since 2010.

What both these players did was on another level, and Giannis eventually lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Miami Heat as James and the Lakers ended up beating the Heat in six games.

Perkins said that what The King has done this year is impressive, especially with the short turnaround and the fact that the Lakers only had a couple of months off. Still, James might miss out on the award again, but Perkins seems to think it should've been his former teammate last year, and should be James this year.

The season's barely a month old and there's a lot of basketball to be played, but LeBron seems well on his way to being a finalist for NBA MVP once again, and that should bring a smile to Perkins' face.
