It's possible that the Los Angeles Lakers could be quietly plotting a move for New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis this year, and LeBron James loves the idea, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

“That would be amazing,” James told ESPN on Tuesday before the Lakers' game against the Brooklyn Nets. “That would be amazing, like, duh. That would be incredible.”

According to McMenamin, Davis is under contract with New Orleans for $27.1 million next season and has a player option for 2020-21 worth $28.8 million, meaning the Lakers would have to trade for the five-time All-Star should they want to acquire him before he becomes a free agent.

LA could be suddenly thinking bigger, especially after missing out on acquiring Trevor Ariza in the recent weeks. The organization has already stood by its young core of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart through many inviting trade offers, but Davis may be too good to pass up.

The team has done quite well with what it had so far in the 2018-19 campaign, currently sitting at 18-13 and fourth in the Western Conference. Even if the front office would fail in compiling a suitable package in exchange for Davis by the trade deadline, the roster likely won't suffer too harshly.

James seems to be enamored with the thought of playing alongside his teammate in February's NBA All-Star Game, only for real this time around.

Whether or not the Lakers and Pelicans will have a mutual interest remains to be seen.

James and the Lakers will host Davis' Pelicans for the first time this season on Friday.
