When J. Cole released his sixth studio album last May, it was met with several positive responses from NBA players. After all, it was undoubtedly one made for basketball junkies, with the likes of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry among those mentioned in the tracks of the album.

Interestingly though, Reddit user u/philgreen2 noticed one interesting tidbit about the song and the playoffs: those players mentioned in the album have really went on to the offseason. Yikes!

To recall, LeBron and his Lakers were recently eliminated from playoff contention by the Phoenix Suns. Curry and the Warriors, meanwhile, were the first victims after losing to the play-in tournament.

Ja Morant, Damian Lillard and Russell Westbrook were all given a shoutout in the song, and shockingly, they were all sent packing by their respective first-round opponents.

It certainly doesn't look good now that the title of the album is “The Off-Season.”

Coincidence or not, this will sure start a new curse in the NBA. Of course, this won't be like those Lil B curses everyone tried to make fun of in the past few years, but some players might start to think if they really want to be mentioned in songs or what.

Speaking of songs with NBA players in it, remember Jack Harlow making a track for Tyler Herro? During the NBA bubble, Herro became a star for the Miami Heat as they battled to the Finals against LeBron James and the Lakers. A season later, however, Herro burst like bubble and was nowhere to be seen for the South Beach franchise for the majority of the 2020-21 campaign.

NBA players better be careful with these rappers and music artists!
