With Monty Williams heading to the Phoenix Suns, the Los Angeles Lakers are zeroing in on hiring Tyronn Lue as their next coach. Coincidentally, Lue and LeBron James will be together this weekend in Las Vegas for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs fight:

While this doesn't confirm anything, the fact that LeBron, Lue and Maverick Carter will be together around the same time the team is expected to finally extend a coaching offer is noteworthy. The Lakers don't plan to interview anybody else at this point, and it seems like this thing is basically a done deal and will be announced either this weekend or early next week.

After coaching the Cavaliers to their first championship in history, the team fired Tyronn Lue after an 0-6 start to this season. Although he is regarded as a solid coach, his 1-18 record without LeBron James isn’t too great. Still, Lue will bring in veteran leadership to the Lakers, along with the ability to instantly connect with James thanks to their past.

The Lakers haven't made the playoffs since 2013, and LeBron just missed the postseason for the first time since 2005. They have a huge summer ahead to turn things around, and getting this order of business out of the way now is important.
