On Wednesday, Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball announced that he'll be releasing his second signature sneaker this season, the ZO2.19. The ZO2.19 will be available for $200, a far cry from the prices he was asking consumers to pay for his first signature sneaker.

SLAM Magazine‘s Franklyn Calle has more on the ZO2.19's, which will be released in three colorways (“Madagascar,” “New White,” and “Lilac”):

Additionally, this year’s kicks feature a whole new combination of materials. Among them is a forefoot strap made of full grain nappa leather, which the brand says will provide “incredible support in the most aggressive cuts and directional changes,” a reinforced spacer mesh that aside from providing ventilation also aims to be “strong enough to never blow out,” and a midsole that features “40% more rebound than standard EVA foam.”

Ball's first signature shoe, the ZO2 Prime, made headlines last year for plenty of reasons but they were rarely positive.

One of the main storylines that followed Ball during his rookie season was that his line of signature sneakers, the ZO2, was overpriced (they were $495), poorly designed and for lack of a better word, a rip-off for consumers that were expecting to get quality sneakers delivered within a reasonable time frame .

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones claimed it took a full year for his shoes to be delivered.

Now, to be completely fair, there were a number of high-profile celebrities, including NBA icon Magic Johnson, former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco and hip-hop artist Jay-Z, that purchased Ball's sneakers and didn't criticize them after they received their pair. Further, a lot of the animosity directed towards Ball at that time was a consequence of his father, LaVar, being so vehemently disliked by a large segment of NBA fans.

Wherever you stand on Ball, his father or the BBB brand, there's no doubt that Lonzo has bravely ventured into the world of entrepreneurship and has yet to be deterred by criticism.
