Thanks to LaVar Ball speaking his son Lonzo’s entry to the Los Angeles Lakers into existence, the Hollywood team is back in the limelight once again.

Armed with a fresh and determined management who has deep ties with the franchise, a salary cap that promises to accommodate not one but two superstars next summer, and a bevy of young and promising players, the path toward the Lakers’ return to prominence has found itself some direction.

Leading the way for the team is none other than rookie point guard Lonzo Ball. He was one of the most celebrated freshmen to come out of college in recent years, and there’s good reason behind the hype.

When the regular season tips off, Ball will have all the opportunity to shine, which leads him to believe that he can attain his individual goal next season, which is to win the Rookie of the Year award, per ESPN Los Angeles.

He will have his hands full though, as fellow greenhorns Markelle Fultz and Dennis Smith Jr., among others, will also make a strong case for the top freshman plum in 2017-18.

The Lakers are already being projected to improve on their record from last season, and if Lonzo Ball transforms all the hype into actual on-court production, Los Angeles might be seeing its first Rookie of the Year winner since Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor back in 1959.
