Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball admits his ankle injury came at the worst time for him since he was playing the best basketball of his career before going down.

Ball sustained a Grade 3 left ankle sprain back on Jan. 19 against the Houston Rockets. The former No. 2 overall pick also developed a bone bruise in his left ankle.

The Lakers, who aren't going to make the playoffs this season, have already shut Lonzo Ball down for the season. The 21-year-old says his second year in the NBA was up and down.

“I thought it was up and down,” Ball said of his second season, via Tania Ganguli of the LA Times. “Trying to find my stride, if you will, the last five games before I got hurt.”

In his second season with the Lakers, Lonzo Ball averaged 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. The former UCLA Bruin shot 40.6 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from beyond the arc and 41.7 percent from the free-throw line.

This summer will be the first offseason that Ball will be healthy, assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks in his ankle. Last summer, Ball had to rehab a knee injury after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
