The Los Angeles Lakers remain interested in adding Carmelo Anthony, but the franchise doesn't want to waive a guaranteed player to create a roster spot for the veteran scorer, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Houston Rockets have reportedly traded Carmelo Anthony to the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls are expected to waive Anthony, which will make the 10-time All-Star a free agent and free to sign with any team of his choice.

Anthony has been linked to the Lakers due to his close friendship with superstar small forward LeBron James.

Anthony's 10-game run with the Rockets was a failure. Melo averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Houston was better on both sides of the floor when Anthony was on the bench. In the 10 games Melo played in, the Rockets had a net rating of minus-9.0 with Anthony on the court and minus-0.2 with him on the bench, per NBA.com.

Anthony wasn't able to play with his pals Chris Paul and James Harden in Houston. James said back in December he knows Anthony's game and tendencies better than anyone.

The Lakers are very shorthanded right now, as LeBron, Rajon Rondo and Lonzo Ball are all out with injuries. Let's see if Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka take the risk of adding Melo to the squad.
