With their win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers have forged their best start since the 1985-86 season.

The Lakers extended their winning streak to five games after their 87-87 win over the Magic. They are currently four games above the Los Angeles Clippers who are second in the West.

A large part of the Lakers' success is due to the seamless chemistry between LeBron James and Anthony Davis. James has been manning the point guard spot, orchestrating the Purple and Gold offense, while Davis anchors the offense as he establishes himself as one of the league's best finishers in the ring.

On top of their fluid offense, it's their defense which has raised the eyebrows of critics. Thanks to the defensive mind of head coach Frank Vogel, the Lakers are one of the top defensive teams in the league right now. They currently have a defensive rate of 103.1 for fourth place in the league.

It also helps that they have the likes of Danny Green, Dwight Howard, Avery Bradley, Davis, and James — all of which have been members of the All-NBA Defensive Teams.

Analysts have been in awe at how quick the Lakers meshed together. It usually takes a few games before a newly-arranged squad gets comfortable with one another. With the LA team, however, they did it right from the get-go.

Hopefully, this will last until the season ends with the Larry O'Brien trophy in their hands.
