The Los Angeles Lakers have waived forward V.J. Beachem and center Stephen Zimmerman ahead of the 15-man roster deadline, according to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints. The roster now sits at 18, with three more cuts expected to come down the pipe prior to the start of the season

Zimmerman and Beachem were signed one after the other earlier in August, but the two combined to play a total of only seven minutes during the first four preseason games.

Zimmerman was selected by the Orlando Magic with the No. 41 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and averaged 1.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 19 games played during his rookie season. The team released Zimmerman on July 4.

Beachem was undrafted this year, but played in the Las Vegas Summer League with the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds through four games.

The team now boasts three small forward with Brandon Ingram, Luol Deng, and Corey Brewer and four centers with Brook Lopez, Andrew Bogut, Ivica Zubac, and Thomas Bryant still on the roster.

Players like Vander Blue and Briante Weber are also expected to fight for a roster spot. Both players could see additional minutes in the team's last preseason game against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.
