Los Angeles will not have a representative at the 2018 All-Star Game, the first time since 1996 that the city did not have a player from either the L.A. Clippers or the L.A. Lakers join the Sunday classic.

This was pointed out by Reddit user foxsleftear in his post on the site.

The last player from Los Angeles to play in the All-Star Game is Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan back in 2017 with Chris Paul making it to the team in 2016 when he was still playing for them. For the Lakers, Kobe Bryant played as an All-Star for the last time in 2016.

Clippers players who had the chance to become All-Stars this year are Lou Williams (23.3 points, 5.1 assists, 1.04 steals per game), Blake Griffin (22.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists), and Jordan (11.8 points, 14.9 rebounds, 66.1% FG percentage).

Meanwhile, the Lakers have a young squad that doesn’t have a veteran leading the charge. In fact, their leading scorer is rookie Kyle Kuzma who is averaging 16.4 points per game. His more touted fellow rookie, Lonzo Ball, hasn’t found his footing in the league though he has the potential to make it as an elite passer in the coming years.

Barring an injury replacement from the Clippers or the Lakers, this will also be the first time since 2005 that the All-Star Game’s host team/s will not have a representative to the glorified exhibition game. The last time this happened was in the 2005 edition of the event hosted by the Denver Nuggets. Although the Denver Nuggets had a young stud named Carmelo Anthony, he didn’t receive an All-Star berth until 2007.
