Earlier today, the Los Angeles Lakers cut veteran big man Andrew Bogut in a move that is not expected to impact the team in a big way. Prior to his release, the 11-27 Lakers have gone winless in all of their last nine games and have only one victory in their last 13 outings.

Even though being cut from a team is not a good way to begin a year, Bogut seemed to have handled his release from the Lakers well with Lakers head coach Luke Walton calling Bogut a professional for the way the Australian carried himself on the way out of the storied franchise’s door, per Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints.

Bogut was signed by the Lakers to a one-year, $2.3 million deal back in the NBA offseason primarily to serve as a veteran presence in the locker room and as a serviceable post option and rim protector for the young Los Angeles squad. With Bogut out, Brook Lopez and Julius Randle will be among the first in line to absorb Bogut’s minutes.

In 24 games played this season, Bogut averaged just 1.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks in just 9.0 minutes per game.

Bogut is 33 and has a body damaged by numerous injuries he has sustained in 13 seasons in the NBA, but there are still teams out there who could use a cheap experienced big man like him to add depth to their frontline.
