It's too early to make any MVP predictions, but Luke Walton believes that LeBron James should be at the top of any list for MVP. James is off to a scorching hot start with the Los Angeles Lakers and he's the driving force in the team's 17-10 record.

“He 100 percent should be near, if not at the top, of that list,” Luke Walton told Sam Amick of The Athletic this week. “I think (with) every team, part of their identity is who their best player is. That’s what made Steph such an incredible leader, is that he was so unselfish and humble. What made Kobe unbelievable, on the other side of the spectrum, is he was a cold-blood killer, and we all felt like, ‘Come mess with us,’ right? So you take on that identity. And LeBron is a flat — he just wins. He loves winning. He loves competing.

“He’s all of it. He’s selfless. He’s a cold-blooded killer. He’s a teacher. He’s a ball-buster. Like, he kind of embraces all those types of leadership abilities, and obviously it takes time – and we’ve got a long ways to go, still – but you can see the group starting to build that confidence together. Again, he’s a big part of the reason why.”

LeBron James should be an MVP-candidate every year for what he brings to his team. He can score, rebound, defend, and facilitate, but his ability to make winning plays down the stretch is what truly separates James from the field.

He's the undisputed leader in the locker room for the Lakers and there's no doubt that he is the main reason the Lakers have made the turnaround from last year to this year. Walton obviously is biased towards his own player, but he's not wrong in this instance.
