Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton says actor Denzel Washington helped lift the spirit of the team on Wednesday.

Washington met with the Lakers on Wednesday as part of the “Genius Series.” The Lakers are coming off two really bad losses, one to the Orlando Magic at home and the other to the Denver Nuggets on the road. Los Angeles lost by 32 points to the Nuggets, and Luke Walton says guys were really down about the loss.

That's where Denzel Washington came into save the day, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN:

It's great,” Lakers coach Luke Walton said Thursday. “People are frustrated and angry after those types of games, so you bring in someone like Denzel, and he talks about the things he talks about, it does a nice job of lifting spirits.”

Walton said the 63-year-old actor's message provided welcomed perspective to his team, which is 11-9 and hosts the Indiana Pacers on Thursday.

“Be good to people. Be thankful for what we have,” Walton said, paraphrasing Washington's talk. “Start every day being humble and grateful for the lives we live and use the blessings we have to help other people.”

The Lakers are 11-9 on the season and still have one of the worst defenses in the NBA. Even with the addition of veteran center Tyson Chandler, LA is giving up 113.0 points per game, 23rd in the NBA.

Luke Walton and the Lakers will try and use Denzel Washington's words to motivate them to snap a two-game losing streak Thursday night at home against the Indiana Pacers.
