Well, that didn't take long. It's just been a few weeks since the Los Angeles Lakers fell to Phoenix Suns in a truly disappointing first-round exit and already, the great Magic Johnson has come out with his not-at-all subtle recruitment pitch for Suns superstar point guard Chris Paul.

In a recent appearance on ESPN LA 710 FM, the Lakers legend was not shy about wanting CP3 to join LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Hollywood:

“No question about it,” Johnson responded when asked if he thought LA should try and sign Paul if he declines his player option with the Suns for next season. “I'd tell Jeanie [Buss] I'd ask some money for CP3. It'd be perfect for LeBron, for AD, and for the role players.”

There's no denying that Chris Paul has been one of the biggest reasons behind the Suns' success this season. As a matter of fact, he played a pivotal role for Phoenix when they eliminated the Lakers in the first round. Interestingly enough, his current deal stipulates that he can actually walk away from the Suns in the offseason. That is of course under the assumption that he opts to turn his back on a guaranteed $44.2 million for next year.

If for some reason this happens, Magic Johnson is adamant that the Lakers should pounce on the opportunity to sign the All-Star point guard. It would be an absolute joy to see Chris Paul play alongside LeBron and Davis in LA, but in reality, this is much easier said than done.

As the old saying goes, when you can't beat them, join them. Or in this case for the Lakers, recruit them.
