With LeBron James now donning the purple and gold, many assume that the Los Angeles Lakers will dominate the league right from the get-go. Magic Johnson, however, has a more realistic view of this year's Lakers.

As reported by Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen and Roll, Johnson expects a slow start from the Lakers, noting that the team will take some time getting to know one another. As they approach the playoffs, Johnson believes that his team will be “really good.”

Along with James, the Lakers have lured Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee, and Lance Stephenson this summer. Fans and critics alike are still waiting if the Lakers have something up in their sleeves. Their current roster is decent but not close to championship caliber. Many believe that they are arranging a package to trade for Kawhi Leonard.

Magic Johnson also pointed out the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets served as inspirations for him as he was figuring out how to arrange a team that can compete for a championship.

He is aware that the team to beat is the Golden State Warriors, emphasizing the fact that you can't beat the Warriors via shooting. You have to figure something else to be able to outplay one of the greatest teams ever assembled in history.

For Johnson, beating the Warriors requires a team who has excellent defenders, players who can both shoot and break the defense down, and a set of tough guys as well.
