The Los Angeles Lakers have flopped on the hardwood and on the small screen in 2022.

While the real Lakers wrap up a season that will see them miss the postseason, HBO's show “Winning Time” is drawing harsh criticism. Ever since its controversial portrayal of Jerry West, the program has been maligned by several of the key players that it features.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar told Jesse Blancarte of BasketballNews.com that it isn't worth watching because it depicts the people of the show in a negative light. Magic Johnson isn't watching the show, either. He told Selome Hailu and Ramin Setoodeh of Variety that he has no interest in watching the show of his own team because none of the players from those teams are involved in the show.

“First of all, you can’t do a story about the Lakers without the Lakers,” says Johnson, 62. “The real Lakers. You gotta have the guys. There’s no way to duplicate Showtime. I don’t care who you get.”

The Adam McKay-directed show is not the only show that Los Angeles fans will be getting this year. Johnson is getting a docuseries on Apple TV that debuts on April 22nd called “They Call Me Magic.” Seeing more of the story behind the Lakers legend should be very captivating.

On the court this season, the Lakers have been even more embarrassing than the show that covers their 1980s glory days. They are very far under .500 and are in line for a very shaky offseason.
