In a tweet sent out on Friday morning, NBA icon Magic Johnson noted that LeBron James is committed to bringing the Lakers another championship.

As part of his message, Johnson harkened back to James' promise to the city of Cleveland — one that was fulfilled in 2016 by way of an all-time great comeback against the Golden State Warriors. The King hasn't made any promises this time around, but Magic believes the goal can be obtained:

“Laker Nation, I can tell you firsthand that LeBron James is committed to bringing a championship back to LA,” Johnson said in his tweet. “He promised the people of Ohio he would bring a championship to Cleveland and he accomplished his mission.”

James, now 34 years of age, opted out of his contract with the Cavs on June 29, 2018. Just a few days later, his management team, Klutch Sports, announced that he would be joining the Lakers. The deal was officially solidified on July 9.

The Lakers were contending for a playoff spot near the midway point of last season. However, James suffered a hamstring injury, which forced him to miss 17 games. As a result, Los Angeles fell out of the hunt.

In the coming season, however, James will have an outstanding new teammate in Anthony Davis, who signed with Los Angeles this offseason. They're not at the top of the list, but many experts have the Lakers among the favorites in the Western Conference for the 2019-20 campaign.
