In the last several months leading up to free agency, there was plenty of chatter surrounding the possibility of LeBron James making the decision to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

During an interview with Spectrum SportsNet on their “Connected With” series on Tuesday, team president of basketball operations Magic Johnson revealed that he had waited outside James' home for an hour before the start of free agency. (h/t Mike Trudell of Lakers.com)

“First of all, Rob and I have been preparing for this for four or five, six months in terms of what would we talk to him about. What did we feel was important to LeBron. We’d been going through so many scenarios, also meeting with Jeanie, talking about what we thought would be important. Then I just, was supposed to be there at 9:01 so I got there at 8:01, so I was going to sit out there for an hour until it was time to go up to his home

There was certainly a high level of excitement and anticipation from the Lakers before free agency given the type of player that James is, currently widely regarded as being the top player in the league. The 33-year-old is a franchise-changing talent who has shown that he can lead a franchise to a tremendous amount of success as the driving force.

With James now in the fold, it has immediately put the Lakers on the map as a possible contender for an NBA title next season along with the addition of several proven veterans such as Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson, and JaVale McGee. This, as well as the mixture of young promising talent, has the potential to see something special develop in Los Angeles.

The four-time league MVP is now in place to be the leading factor for the Lakers in what should be an extremely exciting 2018-19 campaign.
