With the Los Angeles Lakers recently signing former All-Star big man Marc Gasol, rumors have been rife about a potential reunion with his older brother, Pau Gasol, who himself plied his trade with the franchise some years ago. For his part, Marc admitted that it would be great if his brother had one final season in L.A.

The younger Gasol spoke about the possibility of his brother joining him in Hollywood:

“I’m not a very social media guy, but I know Pau loves L.A. and loves the Lakers,” Marc said (h/t Silver Screen and Roll). “Obviously he feels like it’s home, so I’m sure that he would love to come back, but that’s question for Rob and ownership.”

Pau himself has made it no secret that he would love to play one final season with the Lakers before retiring. The big man recently “liked” a tweet talking about it, and a recent workout video posted on Twitter drew plenty of speculation about a return to Los Angeles.

For their part, the Lakers have been mum about a potential return for the two-time NBA champ.

Pau Gasol, now 40 years young, was last affiliated with the Portland Trail Blazers, who signed the veteran big man back in July 2019. Injuries got in the way of the six-time All-Star playing last season, and the Blazers decided to waive him one month into the season. He hasn't signed with any NBA team since then and is currently still recovering from his injury.

While it may have some sentimental value, the Lakers signing Pau to a new deal — and giving him a roster spot — just doesn't sound practical at this point. If anything, though, the team could sign him to a ceremonial deal for a day so he can retire with the franchise.
