Former NBA player Matt Barnes is a huge fan of Los Angeles Lakers second-year point guard Lonzo Ball.

Barnes, who played for the Lakers at one point during his playing career, loves the way Ball plays defense for a point guard and is high on his potential.

“I love Lonzo Ball,” Barnes said on the Colin Cowherd show. “His quickness, his defense, he's tough, [I] love him, his confidence with his shooting; he changes the dynamic of the game; his first step is incredible, his anticipation on defense is incredible, his ball defense is incredible, so I really like what he's doing.”

Lonzo Ball is 6-foot-6. For a point guard, that’s pretty tall. The former No. 2 overall pick is averaging 1.2 steals per game this season through 14 games. He has done a good job this year with his ball pressure. The Lakers are going to need Ball to step up even more now that Rajon Rondo is going to be out for a while with his broken hand.

On offense, Lonzo Ball still isn’t scoring that much, but he doesn’t have to now that LeBron James is on the roster. The 21-year-old is averaging 8.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from beyond the arc and 61.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Lakers have won four games in a row are starting to put things together on the defensive end. They will look for their fifth-straight win Saturday when they take on the Orlando Magic.
