Metta World Peace played a key role alongside the late Kobe Bryant on the Los Angeles Lakers' 2010 championship team, so Bryant's tragic death in a helicopter crash on Sunday in Calabasas is hitting him especially hard. Bryant, 41, died along with eight other people in the accident, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.

World Peace grieved with the rest of the world and honored his former teammate in his own special way, wearing a signed No. 24 Lakers jersey around all day:

He event went to bed with it on:

World Peace also sent a heartbreaking tweet expressing his disbelief at the tragic news:

World Peace took part in an interview on CNN Sunday and shared his favorite memory of Kobe, which involved the two rapping together. The former Lakers forward went on to explain just how much Bryant meant to him as a teammate and a friend.

World Peace joined the Lakers in the summer of 2009. He made a number of key shots during the 2010 championship run, including L.A.'s final one in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. He remained a teammate of Kobe's on the Lakers until 2013.

Metta World Peace and Kobe Bryant clearly shared a special bond, and Kobe's tragic death will stick with the man formerly known as Ron Artest for a long time.
