Los Angeles Lakers forward Michael Beasley was forced to exit Thursday night's preseason matchup against the Sacramento Kings after suffering a rib contusion. The former No. 2 overall pick went through an X-ray evaluation that night, and according to a report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the results came back negative.

Beasley's preseason campaign with the Lakers has been a grind. In fact, Thursday's tilt was the second exhibition game he wasn't able to finish due to injury. He suffered a head laceration in the Lakers' preseason opener.

Beasley should be fine, which is good news for the Lakers, who are reportedly interested in using him at the center positions at times this season.

Beasley, now 29 years of age, played in 74 games (30 starts) for the New York Knicks last season, averaging 13.2 points on 50.7 percent shooting from the field (39.5 percent from beyond the arc), 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 22.3 minutes per outing.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka praised Beasley's versatility as a player after adding him to the roster back in July.

“Michael adds another component of versatility to our deep roster,” Pelinka told NBA.com. “His length and ability to guard multiple positions, stretch the floor, play-make and create his own shot are all essential characteristics for us. Coming off one of the finest years of his career, we think Michael is poised to have a very exciting and strong season for us.”

Beasley and the Lakers will be back for more preseason action on Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. ET, when they'll face the LA Clippers inside The Honda Center. NBA TV will have live broadcast coverage.
