Nike has just announced that they intend to make a huge donation to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation in honor of the legacy of the late, great Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna.

Nike provided a statement about their donation on their website:

As a part of championing Kobe’s legacy, the Nike Foundation will make a $1 million donation to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation in memory of Kobe and Gianna. The foundation, whose mission is to make a positive impact through sports, will use these funds to further Kobe’s goal of keeping kids active and putting them on a path to success in life. It specifically focuses on kids in underserved communities who may face financial barriers to sport and on providing equal sport opportunities for girls.

That is indeed a substantial donation from the sportswear giant, and surely, it is one that will be appreciated by Kobe's foundation. Prior to his untimely passing in January due to a freak helicopter accident, Bryant was very active in helping the youth achieve their dreams through sports. Kobe focused his energies on guiding young girls in particular, and as a matter of fact, he was on his way to coach his daughter's basketball game when tragedy struck.

Beyond their monetary donation, Nike has committed to furthering the legacy of Kobe Bryant through various means as well. Bryant had a long and fruitful relationship with Nike during (and after) his playing days. He was, and continues to be Nike's biggest sports personalities, and it is only fitting that they likewise give back as a way of showing their appreciation for all that Kobe has done not only for them, but for society as well.
