It’s 2018 yet somehow, LaVar Ball continues to find a way to squeeze his name into the headlines. With an obnoxious combination of a brazen mouth and apparent disregard for his own image, the head of the Ball Family continues to invade the sports world’s consciousness by doing the very same thing that made him a household name – by coming up with outrageous statements.

Whether the Los Angeles Lakers admit it or not, LaVar Ball has become a nuisance for his son’s, Lonzo Ball, team. Earlier this month, LaVar made another startling statement, saying that the Lakers are not interested anymore in playing under team head coach Luke Walton. That comment did not sit well with a lot of folks from all corners of the basketball world.

Adding to the frustration of these people is the seeming helplessness of Lonzo in terms of trying to control his dad’s shenanigans. According to Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, some people in the NBA are growing concerned of Lonzo’s passiveness.

An Eastern Conference vice president agreed. “It doesn't do anybody any favors,” he said. “Not the team, the fans, nor Lonzo. You can't walk this one back.”

While the Lakers front office, coaching staff and players have not turned on their rookie teammate for his father's indiscretions, a league source said, they are not happy about them.

“They are frustrated that he can't stand up to his dad, but they really like him,” the source said.

If the Lakers were winning, LaVar would not be this big of a distraction for them. That said. LaVar is actually one of the reasons many people think why the Lakers are not getting much success this season.

The Lakers are just 15-28 through their first 43 games, and Lonzo, has been perennially trying to avoid the early bust labels – both facts counter the preseason forecasts of LaVar, who projected Los Angeles to be a playoff team and his son to be the greatest gift the Lakers have ever gotten (or something along that line).

At some point, LaVar will slow down. The Lakers just can’t wait for that to happen.
