Paul George may now be part of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the Indiana Pacers reportedly filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Lakers for tampering with him before the trade deadline last February.

The Lakers are being charged for apparently trying to keep in touch with the four-time All-Star forward and his representatives, proposing a possible signing in the future without the knowledge of Pacers officials. According to NBA TV Analyst Peter Vecsey, Pacers owner Herb Simon filed it himself and the NBA reacted by hiring an independent firm to investigate on the matter and find out the truth about it.

“Pacers’ owner, chairman and CEO, Herb Simon, recently filed charges against the Lakers for purportedly tampering with rising free agent Paul George. An independent law firm, hired by the league, is in the midst of a comprehensive investigation regarding the seemingly apparent impropriety, which might last three weeks or longer, according to a source. This info also was corroborated.”

Tampering charges were also filed against some teams teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets back in 2013 after some emails and other forms of communication were uncovered back then.

Although nothing has been proven yet, the Lakers might be subjected to lose draft picks and not be allowed to talk to specific free agents if found guilty.
