Tonight will mark the first matchup of the 2017-18 NBA season between the young Los Angeles Lakers and star-studded Oklahoma City Thunder at Staples Center. With that being said, the media circus involving Thunder star forward Paul George and his future relating to both Oklahoma City and a possible move to the Lakers flares up more than usual.

According to a tweet earlier today from Bill Oram of the Orange County Register, George opened up about the offseason tampering situation between the Lakers, notably Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka, and his former team, the Indiana Pacers.

“I mean, it is what it is. They thought it was tampering, there was no tampering at all,” George said on Wednesday. “It was kind of crazy, our relationship, mused and B-Shaw (Lakers associate head coach Brian Shaw) was far more stronger than teams, me coming to the Lakers was. B-Shaw's been a mentor for me so it was kind of comical but we moved on.”

So what was the tampering situation relating to the Lakers even about, exactly? According to George, it was one thing: he talked with coach Shaw about fishing. Yes, you read that correctly.

“The Pacers thought that there was more in depth of them trying to recruit me, which it wasn't,” George claimed. “They only thing me and B-Shaw ever spoke about was fishing, and challenge each other on fishing trips. B-Shaw has way, way, way better class than to recruit me.”

In a feature article written by Nick Gallo that was posted on the Thunder's official team website over the summer, George expressed his love for fishing.

What is George's future when it comes to his hometown Lakers? Your guess is as good as mine at this point, so we'll just have to wait and see. In 34 starts this season for the Thunder, George is currently averaging 20.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.4 steals per game in 37.1 minutes of action per contest.
