Los Angeles Lakers backup point guard Rajon Rondo had his right hand drained on Sunday to address some swelling, according to Lakers head coach Luke Walton.

The Lakers announced on November 15 that Rajon Rondo would miss four to five weeks while he recovers from right hand surgery. The veteran guard suffered a fracture in his hand.

Rajon Rondo signed a one-year deal with the Lakers in July after spending last season with the New Orleans Pelicans. He began the season as the starter, but lost his spot to Lonzo Ball after he was suspended four games for spitting and punching Houston Rockets All-Star guard Chris Paul in the second game of the year at Staples Center.

In 11 games so far this season, Rajon Rondo is averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. The four-time All-Star and NBA champion is shooting 45.5 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from beyond the arc and 50.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The Lakers are 16-10 on the season, fifth place in the Western Conference. Rondo is nearly back to full practice including some contact drills. December 7th marked the fourth week of what was originally a four to five week timetable. Walton will likely update Rondo's status with reporters after each practice
