The Los Angeles Lakers are starting to find their groove after a rocky start and it looks like Rajon Rondo is on his way to rejoining the lineup.

The return of Rajon Rondo will help stabilize head coach Luke Walton's rotations and give the Lakers another veteran presence on the roster. Furthermore, Rondo's attacking nature should help Los Angeles start playing faster and attacking more in transition. They're a better team when they're in transition, and it takes pressure off of everyone when they can steal easy buckets on the fast break.

No one on the Lakers will complain about Rondo's return to the floor, but LeBron James and company have fared quite well since Rondo underwent surgery on a fractured hand. Los Angeles is 6-3 since he left the lineup and currently sits in fifth place amongst a crowded Western Conference.

As it stands, 14 teams are within 5.5 games of first place in the West. In fact, the Utah Jazz sit in 14th place but are only 1.5 games back of a playoff spot.

The logjam in the West is exactly why the Lakers will be relieved when Rondo makes his return. Any lapse in play could result in the team dropping in the standings. Of course, some may drop out of the playoff race entirely as the season progresses, but the Purple and Gold don't want to become one of those teams.

Expect Rondo to return soon and every Lakers fan should count their lucky stars that he's not out long.
