The Los Angeles Lakers are seemingly in free-fall as a franchise.

After the team’s president of basketball operations, Lakers legend Magic Johnson, surprisingly resigned in impromptu fashion before the team’s season ended, it has been nothing but drama for the purple and gold.

Now into the offseason, the drama continues, as the team’s coaching search has been nothing short of a laughingstock with their main candidate, Monty Williams, ending up in Phoenix as head coach of the Suns and their second choice, Tyronn Lue, turning down their lukewarm offer of 3 years/$18 million for a title-winning coach.

Of course, how the season started was also fascinating (and potentially alarming), as Magic and Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka opted to surround LeBron James with more playmakers instead of proven shooters – as James’s resume has proven works in the past.

The “Meme Team” as they were affectionately called of Lance Stephenson, Michael Beasley, JaVale McGee, and Rajon Rondo were fun in theory, but it never quite worked out on the court.

One of those players, Rajon Rondo, said that he would be leaving via free agency if the Lakers didn’t have a coach when the free agent period begins, per Ry Cole of Bleacher Report.

Of course, many of the comments on that Twitter thread are salty Lakers fans telling Rondo that he will not be missed. Indeed, Rondo’s lack of shooting ability and ball-dominance would seem like a less-than-ideal fit with James. As such, Rondo leaving certainly won’t make many Lakers fans lose sleep.
