Los Angeles Lakers backup point guard Rajon Rondo told local reporters Friday after practice that newly acquired center Tyson Chandler is already the best screen-setter on the team.

Chandler reached a buyout agreement with the Phoenix Suns and signed with the Lakers after he cleared waivers. The veteran big man played 22 minutes against the Minnesota Timberwolves in his Lakers debut and finished with two points and nine rebounds.

The 36-year-old played great defense on Timberwolves All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns in the post.

The Lakers have a really young team. This is Tyson Chandler's 18th season in the NBA. He has been around for a while and knows the subtle nuances that come with setting a good, hard pick. A hard-nosed player like Rajon Rondo can appreciate little things like that.

LA desperately needed Tyson Chandler's services. They currently have the second-worst defense in the NBA. Chandler won the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year award and has always been one of the best rim protectors in the league. Before Chandler joined the team, the Lakers didn't have any shot blockers on the roster other than JaVale McGee.

The Lakers now have three players on the club with championship experience in LeBron James, Tyson Chandler and Rajon Rondo. LA is not even close to competing for a title this season, but having veterans with playoff experience under their belt will be beneficial to the young guys on the team.
