Los Angeles Lakers backup point guard Rajon Rondo is scheduled to see a hand specialist on Thursday, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.

The Lakers announced on Nov. 15 that Rajon Rondo would miss four to five weeks while he recovers from right hand surgery. The veteran guard had his right hand drained this past weekend to address some swelling as well.

Dec. 7 marked the fourth week of the original timetable for Rajon Rondo.

In 11 games so far this season, Rondo is averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. The four-time All-Star and NBA champion is shooting 45.5 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from beyond the arc and 50.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Rondo began the season as the Lakers' starting point guard, but he lost his spot to second-year guard Lonzo Ball after he was suspended four games for spitting and punching Houston Rockets All-Star guard Chris Paul in the second game of the year at Staples Center.

Rondo was nearly back to full practice, including participating in some contact drills. It's unclear if he's seeing the hand specialist because he suffered a setback, or just to gauge how the recovery is going. The Lakers are 17-10 on the season, fifth place in the Western Conference.
