To keep his competitive fire burning amid an injury, Los Angeles Lakers guard Rajon Rondo plays card games and Connect Four.

Rondo, who's currently out with a broken right hand, shared that he does all sorts of activities to remain competitive. But this is not stopping the Lakers' veteran guard from trying to beat everyone he competes with.

“Play a lot of Connect Four, UNO, spades, bourre’,” Rondo said to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times. “Other activities where I can compete without using my hand muscle. That’s about it.”

“I'm trying to beat up on anybody I can, if possible,” Rondo said. “Whether it's my son, whether it's LeBron or whether it's my brother. Whatever competitive thing I can do that's not gonna further injure or set back my hand. I try to play with anyone.”

While an interesting take, it's not much of a surprise that Rondo does these sorts of things to keep his competitive mindset intact. After all, he's built a reputation as one of the most intelligent basketball players out there. Apart from treating card games like playoff games, it's easy to imagine Rondo reviewing tons of game film while receiving treatment on his injured right hand.

Right now, Rondo has been cleared to travel with the team and shoot with his injured hand. He's expected to be out for a week and half more based on the four-to-five-week timeline set for his recovery.
