It has been over 50 days without NBA basketball, so Los Angeles Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka is trying to do something about it.

Per Sam Amick and Joe Vardon of The Athletic (first reported by ESPN), Pelinka has actively been trying to get the help of Los Angeles health officials in order to help open the Lakers' practice facility in El Segundo, California.

Pelinka and the team's legal counsel are apparently hardly alone in their lobbying efforts. Practice facilities across the entire league began to shut down just days after the league officially suspended the season on March 11.

Prior to the league's postponement due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Lakers situated themselves as one of the best teams in the entire league. Led by the superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Purple and Gold held an impressive 49-14 record — good for the best record in the Western Conference and the second-best in the NBA behind the Milwaukee Bucks.

A former sports agent and representative to many star players over the last two-plus decades, Pelinka has served as the Lakers' GM since March of 2017

Along with Pelinka, LeBron has recently been vocal on his desire to continue the season rather than cancel it. The four-time MVP sent out a tweet on Thursday expressing the players' desire to get back to playing once it is safe to do so. He also discredited any rumors that league executives and agents want to cancel the season entirely.
