Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O'Neal has already taken two jabs at Dwight Howard since the former superstar big man rejoined the Lakers.

O'Neal, though, decided to change his tune on Thursday and actually gave Howard some advice on how he can be successful in his second stint with the Lakers.

“Listen, I wish him well,” O'Neal said on the Dan Patrick Show, via Caitlyn Holroyd of the Score. “My only advice to him is he needs to dig, dig deep. Really deep. I know he's a big man, he's worked hard, he wants to win a championship, and he can get it done.

“In Miami, I was 34, same as Dwight, on my way out. People thought I was washed up when I left L.A., but I dug deep down. I said, ‘You know what? I can do this.' So, if he does everything like he's supposed to do – focus, no joking, no playing – just dig deep down and really, really want it, they could possibly win.”

Last season with the Washington Wizards, Dwight Howard played in just nine games. He underwent a lumbar microdiscotemy in November. Howard put up 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds with Washington.

With the Lakers, Howard will back up JaVale McGee and play a very minimal role. This won't be like 2012-13, when Howard was a focal point of the Lakers' offense and averaged 17.1 points and 12.4 rebounds in 76 regular season games.

Howard is on a very short leash with the Lakers. The second he becomes a distraction, Howard will be cut by Los Angeles.
