According to the sportsbook Nitrogensports.eu, the Los Angeles Lakers have the second-best odds to win the NBA title next season.

As observed, they're behind the back-to-back champions Golden State Warriors and between the Houston Rockets — the best team in the regular season in 2017-18.

The Lakers have a chance — give them at least two years. But winning the title next year is rather unlikely.

Head coach Luke Walton is in offseason mode right now. And just like last year's summer, he's hoping to make great leaps. Before the season came to a close, Walton admitted to feeling sad, but at the same time, he was excited about the upcoming season. As reported by Bill Oram of The Orange County Register:

“I’m thrilled about the offseason,” Walton said. “The offseason was huge for us last year. It’s sad that the season’s coming to an end, it’s a group of guys I really liked working with … but I’m thrilled to get back in the gym.”

His goals remain realistic. While the odds have placed them second, his aim is to make it into the top eight seeds:

“That’s our goal is to get back there,” Walton said. “That’s where we think this organization belongs. We weren’t ready to make that jump this year. That’s unfortunate, but there are still a lot of very positive things that we did this year and a lot of learning that we did that’s ultimately going to help us get back in that top eight seeds.”

Like they always say, players get better in the offseason. While the Lakers are not championship material just yet, they are getting there step by step. Give them a few offseasons more.
