ESPN NBA analyst Stan Van Gundy was faced with his first hot-seat question of his new gig, asked to weigh in the never-ending debate of picking Lakers forward LeBron James or Michael Jordan as the greatest player of all-time. Van Gundy gave James a slight edge for that title

“I'll tell you why the difference to me and obviously it's very close, they both play both ends of the floor, they both score, all of that stuff is great,” said Stan Van Gundy. “The only thing I'll say in LeBron's favor is better passer, getting other people involved, so the edge is this slight. This slight.”

Panelist Mike Greenberg was irate to see his co-host Jalen Rose give Stan Van Gundy such respect after picking LeBron James over Michael Jordan, but the former player clarified that he can respect that opinion when the statement is not so obnoxious as to say James would “dominate” Jordan.

Rose agreed to disagree, picking Jordan due to being the best offensive and defensive player on the floor throughout a long stretch of his career.

“Jay Williams came on this program and said LeBron would dominate Michael Jordan in one-on-one,” said Rose. “That's not what [Van Gundy] said, he said that in his opinion, LeBron is a hair ahead of MJ because he makes teammates better. Now I'll go on the other side and give MJ the advantage because MJ was a guy that's the best player on both ends of the floor consistently.”
